This 6 week course is for students with experience throwing who can consistently form cylinders on the wheel. 

In this advanced class students will meet with their instructor for 2.5 hours once a week for 6 consecutive weeks to master throwing larger more complicated forms, and ways to alter them.

Advanced methods of throwing, trimming, and a variety of finishing techniques will be discussed, focusing on wheel made pieces. Techniques such as joining forms to create a larger form, altering forms, oval forms, and surface treatments (faceting, fluting, texturing with rope/ rollers, etc.) will be explored.

Students will be able to create pieces with their own style and work with the instructor to create a cohesive designs. Success of this class is dependent on outside course work.

 

An added benefit of being a student at CBTB is time to practice outside of your regularly scheduled class time.  Come in for Open Studio Hours to practice and make pieces outside of your class period.  Open Studio Hours are Daily from 12PM to 6PM

Includes:

    • A 25-lb bag of clay
    • Firing/baking of your pottery
    • Glazes/materials
    • Use of studio machinery, tools and equipment
    • 18"x14"x15" personal shelf storage space at CBTB
    • Access to Open Studio Hours (Monday-Sunday 10 AM-6 PM). This access is unlimited during the 12-week course! 

 

Projects include:  Large bowls, vases, pitchers, home furnishing pieces, decorative shapes to traditional forms + more!

 

Suggested prerequisite: Intro to Pottery Wheel (1-3 times), Next Step (1-2 times).

 

Please note that the minimum age to register for this class is 16 years old.

    • Q: Can I make up a class?
      • A: Yes!  we will work to find a time / space in another class for you to attend, but we cannot guarantee schedules or space will allow. 
    • Q: When are Open Studio Hours?
      • A: Daily from 12PM to 6PM. 
    • Q: Can I ask questions during the class?
      • A: Of course!  Part of the reason why we have in-person classes is so we can interact with one another and the instructor.
